Atchafalaya

Known as the “Long River” to the Choctaw Indians of Louisiana. Its resemblance
to the shorter Egyptian name Atcha is suggestive, especially in view of the
Choctaws’ own deluge myth. Here, too, “At” is used to identify water, one of the
three Atlantean themes (city, mountain, and/or water) associated with this prefix
by numerous cultures around the world.
